North Carolina Vital Records Electronic Birth Registration System

(EBRS)

The EBRS system permits the participating counties access to all North Carolina birth records for persons born 1971 – forward, (except for adoption records).

Durham County Register of Deeds has access to Statewide Electronic Birth Registration System for North Carolina Birth Records only.

This service permits the Register of Deeds office to access and issue certified copies of birth records for applicants born in the State of North Carolina 1971 – forward.

The cost is $24.00 per certificate record search (cash only).

EBRS Certified Copies can be obtained in our office between:

8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (except major holidays).

Durham County Register of Deeds does not have access to birth records statewide for persons born before 1971. If you need birth records prior to 1971 you can contact the Register of Deeds in the county where the person was born, or the State Vital Records office in Raleigh.

Durham County Register of Deeds does not have access to out-of-state births, you must contact the State Vital Records office where the person was born.

Must have acceptable form of identification:

 Current State Issued Driver’s License

Current State Issued Identification

Current Passport

Military Identification
